8/13 Dear Rebecca: We saw you last night @ MAUDSLEY. MAGNIFICENT! I am the lady who approached you after the concert (wife of Sandy Janes' friend/co-worker). I, very mistakenly, made a suggestion for your next Ballad CD. The song I wanted to suggest was 'BUT BEAUTIFUL'...have never heard it done so well by ANY artist. I play Nat King Cole's album "The Very Thought of You" - which was the song I mistakenly mentioned last night...you must have tho't, "this lady is crazy...I didn't sing this tonight." Oh, well. A MUST for your new album. Especially liked your nuance of ending the piece with..."Life is Funny....." Great Touch! Please, Please, Please do it! Of course, "The Very Thought of You" isn't a shabby song either.

Hope you consider it. We're all looking forward to seeing you again. We're a very fussy audience and YOU are a truly GREAT TALENT!

Best regards, Laurie Curran

My husband and I just saw you for the first time today at Tanglewood. You were absolutely fabulous. Can't remember when we enjoyed a performance as much (by the way, we saw Tony Bennett and Diana Krall the night before - didn't enjoy it nearly as much). You have a wonderful stage presence and look like you're really enjoying yourself and it made for a most enjoyable afternoon. Thank you for being so generous with your performance. Any chance you will ever come to Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in Troy, NY? It's such a terrific venue. I'll be checking your website to find out where I can catch another one of your great performances.
Thanks again!

I heard the name George Mesterhazy the other day on the radio and went straight home to my pc, did a search on George. I'm wondering if George is the same George Mesterhazy I worked with years ago in Atlantic City at Le Grand Fromage. I sang, he played great keyboard. If it's you George, Hello from your old music pal, DEDE, Theda. I'm still singing and working on my own 1st CD. Wanna Play?

Will you be including "BUT BEAUTIFUL" on your new Ballads Album, "My Foolish Heart"? You sing it so magnificently! Also, a comment. I want to start a collection of all your CD's, and it's more informative if you list the song selections on ALL of the albums (as you do on some of them). Would love to hear your response to question above. Heard you at Maudslay, and "But Beautiful" was MAGIC! Very moving! Best regards- Laurie Curran (E-mail: Lcurran9@aol.com )

Rebecca - it is good to see your webpage. I enjoyed hearing you in San Jose this August. Maybe I'll go to Redwood City to see you. I so enjoyed your performance at the Montgomery Theatre in San Jose with Smith Dobson. The first time I saw and talked with you was at the Garden City Restaurant which has since lost it's mind and cancelled jazz there....can you believe it. It was my home away from home for soulful, music experiences. I want to get your new CD. Hopefully it's here at Tower Records or I will order from you directly. My best to you...your voice is such a gift (with a lot of hard work). I know I keep pounding the piano keys. Hoping to get that great Smith Dobson piano sound. Dear Ms. Parris,

About 2 years ago I heard a recording of yours on a National Public Radio Jazz show, "All My Tomorrows." I was in my car and had to leave and could not wait until several more songs were played when the DJ would announce your name. I just fell in love with your voice and the way you sang this song. I called the radio station (something I have never done before) and got your name and the name of the CD.

For the next several weeks I tried many stores (including some in Manhattan) and on the internet to find this CD and found that it was out of print. I told a friend of mine who was able to get the CD for me. It took about 6 months.

My husband and I love the CD and I also have some of your other CD's now.

I have also discovered your webside and have been checking your schedule in hopes of seeing you in person. I was very excited to find that you will be appearing in Cape May in November as I live in Central NJ. I plan to attend the Jazz Festival in November specifically to see you.

Hope to see you there, along with many other exciting artists.

If you have time to write back I would love to hear from you.

Sincerely, Melanie Satran (sat7@aol.com)

Rebecca, whenever you're at Chan's I usually try to catch your show along with my husband and a few friends. My girlfriends and I spent the jazz festival weekend in Lenox to see you at Tanglewood-GREAT SHOW! One song you sang really touched me and made me miss my husband. We just celebrated our 25th anniversary and I wish you would sing "All my tomorrows belong to you" this Saturday night (10/28). What a beautiful song. He's a very special person and it's really hard to find something to show someone how special they are, and you can be that something for me. No matter what, I'll enjoy your show and best wishes to you. Now that I live out in the "burbs",I never get into the city to see you in Cambridge or Boston-and anyway, no one can beat Chan's for atmosphere, friendliness and to be honest, price. I will say hello to you on Saturday, so that you can sign my Tanglewood program.

Rebecca...I heard of your web page through a Boston contact. I'm the drummer for a Jazz and Swing Band called Pepper and Fine Thyme from Florida. When I read your home page I was floored to see the name...Scott Steed on Bass. I was on the road with Scott in the 80's and after the act broke up we lost contact with each other. I saw him once (talk about a small world) at a Jazz Festival in Sacramento, Ca. or was it L.A ??? Can't remember. Anyhow... I'd love to get back in touch with him. Can you supply me with email or if you see him... (is he in Boston now???) tell him Gary and Marion Denton say hello. Ask him to remember the Alan and Shane Show. Hope to hear from you soon. Email me at gcd@tampabay.rr.com Thanks... hope to hear you and see you in Boston sometime. Gary Denton

Dear Rebecca: We really miss you out here in San Francisco! It has been much too long. I even have difficulty getting your albums or finding out what's new. Glad I found the jazz vocal website. Would you ever consider giving a vocal workshop out here on your next tour date? I am sure that it would be a sell-out, and I would be happy to assit? I sang professionally for 15+ years, unfortunately have not sang in 8 years, but would love to be part of anything you do. I truly admire your vocal/professional abilities, and miss you very much. Rebecca, I'm sure you don't remember me, but I was thrilled and delighted by your performance at the Cape May Jazz Festival this past weekend. I purchased, and you signed, "A Passionate Fling". I commented that the reason I purchased it was because it had one of my "favs" on it -- Little Sunflower, by Freddie Hubbard. The entire album is great, and I'm looking forward to your next venture with George. I'll touch base with your schedule from time to time. I'd like to come see you perform and bring some of my friends that didn't make Cape May. I hope you're planning to perform around the Philadelphia area at some point. We'll travel an arc between Sandy Hook, NJ, and Baltimore, MD to catch good acts -- and you certainly are one of them. Thanks for sharing your talent.

Hi Rebecca, I am a singer in the Worcester area, classically trained and fairly well known on the local level as a teacher and soloist. In my younger years I sang and loved to sing jazz standards and did some work out. I am now in my 40's (mid) and would so like to get back into this area of entertaining, but don't know if I would
be spinning my wheels at this point in my life. I'm not sure where to begin. Any advice?

I take liberties with your name because Jane and I have loved you for (dare I say?) 28 years. I believe we decided it was New Years eve 1972. At any rate, it was wonderful seeing you in Marble- head last week. I believe your voice is better than ever and since we have finally come into the 20th century with a CD player and a computer I'm sending you an e-mail while listening to you claim you " Ain't Misbehavin'".

Just thought I'ld let you know we are thinking of you and wish you super success.

Love to you and may this Christmas bring you all the things you want and need.

Hi Rebecca!

I'm new to cyberspace and websites and all that. Checked you out today and was really thrilled to see that some of my students had e-mailed you after the great concert and jazz clinic you did for us in Norwood MA back in May of 2000. It's also really neat to read your guest book and see how personally you connect witheveryone you sing to. You have an amazing talent for making people feel special. I hope to hear you perform again soon. Your "A Beautiful Friendship" CD is one of my all-time favorites. Glad all is going well

Hi, Rebecca! I don't want to push, but I have been hanging on my mailbox since Valentine's Day, waiting for my copy of "My Foolish Heart". When will they be going out? I bought mine at your performance at the Regatta Bar. Unfortunately, I paid cash, so can't prove it! I paid $40.00 and got the other two cds on "special". What a bonus night! I know that you have had problems with your old distributor/producer/whatever...but is there any chance of your re-releasing your Big Band cd?
I love you! Brooke Condon @ Woodland45@aol.com

Dearest Rebecca.... now that I have left New England(Salem, MA) for sunny Florida I find myself missing you already... having spent the past 12 years attendingyour performances at Luca's, The Regatta Bar, Stouffers and Marblehead, I don't know how I will survive the rest of my life without seeing and hearing you in person. I fell in love with your voice back in the 80's when I heard you sing a ballad on "Eric in the Evening" which spawned a futile attempt at finding your recordings in any of the larger record stores. I was quite fortunate to have a friend make a tape for me from a well worn album. I wore the tape out. I now have all of your recordings except the xmas cd that I was not aware of until just now when I saw it on your webpage and your latest cd of all ballads. I would like to purchase both of them but do not know if the distribution reaches Florida. I know you are on the road so I am not expecting an immediate reply.... I wonder if I might be able to purchase the new cd and the xmas cd directly from you. Please let me know.....

I love you,

Dear Rebecca, Thank you for a wonderful performance at Chan's. My husband and I saw you at Tanglewood for the time last fall and I had been raving about you to my friend, who is a true lover of jazz, ever since. When I learned that you would be at Chan's, I couldn't resist the opportunity to introduce her to you. We traveled a long way, (from Albany, NY) but it was worth every mile, and then some. As a matter of fact, we left Woonsocket feeling as if we made a new friend! You are the best. It was a most enjoyable performance and you are not only extremely gifted, but very warm and gracious! I hope you're able to come to Schenectady on September 21st. It happens to be my friend's 80th birthday and this would indeed be a special treat. Looking forward to seeing you again, but in the meantime, I'll just keep playing the CDs over and over and over again. Best regards, Thea Hambright (and Zelma Beltzer) Your new friends!

I stumbled on Rebecca's new CD of ballads on a listening station at Joseph Beth's Bookstore in Lexington, KY, and I have to say that it is, without a doubt, one of the best I have purchased in years. I love Shirley Horn, Cassandra Wilson, Diane Reeves, Betty Carter, Nancy Wilson, etc.., and this woman has a style that is very much her own. Her voice is laced with a greatness that I have not heard in many years, and I am honored to have it as part of my collection. If you have not purchased this CD, do it NOW....or at least soon. Open a nice bottle of wine, turn down the lights, turn off the phone, lock the doors, and be prepared to be lifted to another world. OK.....so I love the CD, but it really is one of the best I have purchased out of about 700+/-, and I am one lucky man to have found it. Looking forward to catching a concert hopefully. Gee......does she ever come to Kentucky? Have a great listen, and thanks for a true work of art in jazz vocals. Atkins1962@aol.com

Dear Rebecca,
Last month I was in LA for the weekend and had the pleasure of talking to Tierney Sutton. She absolutely insisted that I go to hear you at the Jazz Spot - and what a gift that was. You blew me away! I find that jazz singers are usually primarily actors, oriented to the lyrics of a song, or instrumentalists, who sometimes treat the lyrics simply as sounds). But you are about the only person I have ever heard who can illuminate both lyric and music, seamlessly, beautifully, simultaneously. I know how much skill and presence of mind that takes, so I am completely in awe. I am writing you because I am going to be in Boston next week (May 22-26), and I wonder if I could meet with you to get some advice. I just put out my first CD and am trying to figure out how to develop my craft and my career from here. I live in Seattle but am trying to get the heck out of here soon. Only I don't know where I should go - I'm homesick for the East and have a great support network in Boston, but Tierney said that Boston would be the absolute pits for building my career. ("Ask Rebecca!" she said.) So, I'd love it if you could give me a kind of "master class" to share with me any career development advice you have, as well as your feedback or tips on my singing. I could send you a CD in advance. Please let me know if you would have time for that on May 22, 23, 24 or 25. Thanks - and again, my compliments on your amazing artistry. Good morning...the coffee's great: I like it strong! Just heard you for the first time last evening on WOUB, here in Athens OH. Shadow of Your Smile, a beaut I haven't heard by anyone in a long time...and of course never at this tempo! (Will she go into bossa? Nope.) Stopped me cold---make that "warm." Had to sit in the parking lot, while my darlin' went on to shop, to hear the end...and then of course through the next tune to find out who you are. Don't see the song anywhere here, so must be a new album. Fear not, I'll find you. Richard Carlson, jazzolog@myjazzmail.com

Rebecca, just happened to be playing on the computer on a "too hot" Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas. "It's Another Day" is on in the background. Thought I would check to see if you had a website. I was certainly delighted to see that you had and that it was so accessible. Thanks for a lot of great memories. Unlike a lot of other songs, whenever a Rebecca Parris song gets caught in my head over and over, it actually makes for a better day. Recently sent a copy of "It's Another Day" to some friends who are expecting a baby boy in September. Told them I was dedicating your version of "Let the Flower Grow" to their new son. What an exquisite piece.
So, when are you playing Las Vegas? There are lots of great jazz venues out here and we'd love to have you. Maybe a stopover on one of your frequent trips to LA (my former hometown, as was Rhode Island my former home state.....three cheers for both Chuck Niles and the Newport Jazz Fest). Best of luck in all your ventures......and for godsake hurry out to "Sin City." Peter O'Neill 301 Kingsclear Ct. Las Vegas, NV 89145 ponla@aol.com

It was such a pleasure to meet you and your husband Thurs. eve at Lainie Levine's. Unbelievably enough on Saturday I was listening to WBOQ on the North Shore and you were singing a song. Hi, Whew! This is scary. I can actually write to my favorite vocalist. I was listening to your CD a Passionate Fling (which you personally singed for me when you were in New Port RI at Salvia College). I just happen to type in your name on the internet and there was this great web sight I had to get that album because it has "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". That song has a lot of memories. It was the theme song of our marching and bugle corps. That was along time ago. First Time I heard you sing was with the Ken Hadley's big band. You sang at some high school in Mass. (Trombone player was a music teacher there). I was in the first row with tears just coming down my face as you sang that song. Last time I saw you was at Chan's in Woonsocket last year. You sang the most fantastic jazz version of Happy Birthday I have ever heard in my life. I never knew that song could be jazzed up. Did you record anything with a big band? Please let me know. I play drums in a 16 piece band and really like the big sound. Thanks Ken

I really tried to get going early that day so I could attend, but as I mentioned to you we had a gig 2 hours away downstate and it was going to be a very long day. You had mentioned that you would like to trade cds. I would be delighted. I only have 2 out, but would be happy to send you both. I would really like to trade for the cd that has that song about the umbrellas and the rain. I think yyou told me that Tony Bennett recorded it once. Please email me your address and I'll get our cds out to you asap. God give you safe passage as you are on the road. Rebecca -
I really enjoyed your concert at the Whisperdome in Schenectady and your workshop at St. Rose. Among other things, I loved your arrangement of My Romance, and the verse to The Shadow of Your Smile. I knew from your recordings that you make the songs tell a story, but it's even more powerful in person. After the workshop, I gave you a cd with some lyrics that I've written. If you get a chance, I would love to get some feedback. Good or bad, your opinion would be helpful. Thanks so much, Jody Shayne jshayne@nycap.rr.com

Hi Rebecca, we were glad to hear that you are coming to South Florida to sing for us in November. We are fans of yours from Boston. The last time I saw you was at Chan's about five and a half years ago, just before moving here. I also enjoyed seeing you at the different places around Boston. I will always remember the Valentine's Day you sang "Right To Love", for my partner and I, at the club in the hotel in Harvard Sq. We are planning to come to the Van Dyke on South Beach to see you. Hi Rebecca, This is Ron from Marblehead Jazz Associates. I emailed you a month ago but got no reply so I am repeating my message here:
On you schedule it says that you will be appearing at the Mugford Church on Dec. 1. Actually it is the Unitarian-Universalist Church on 28 Mugford St. It would be nice if you could add a link to our website http://www.marbleheadjazz.org which is dedicated strictly to you right now. I want to tell you how much we enjoy you concerts. For a "Holiday Concert" the first one you did was really special. Even us Jewish folks loved all the Christmas and holiday music. You once said that if you could find a Hannuka song that wasn't just about dreidles you might sing it. The song, Rock of Ages, is traditionally sung at Hannuka. How about that? Once again, thanks for your great performance this past Tuesday at JAMS in West Palm Beach. I know Jim and James had a ball backing you--they told me so.
You'd also be perfect for the Gold Coast Jazz Society in Ft.Lauderdale. Unfortunately getting something done with them is akin to the mating of elephants--everything is done at a high level, with a lot of noise and it takes a year to get results. I'll keep you posted. MY FOOLISH HEART is even more than I expected. As a sucker for ballads, I just knew it would be a good album. It turned out to be a GREAT album. I say that because each time I replay it, I hear something different. You have really grown as an artist. And of course I'll always remember your introducing of "The Island" to me on that small NCL jazz cruise umpteen years ago. You obviously impressed me. I'll keep in touch. Gary Jazz10s@aol

I became aware of you through Jonathan Schwartz, a veteran DJ in New York currently with WNYC who is also the program director for Frank's Place on XM Satellite Radio. He's played "Love Comes and Goes" several times. A beautiful song, beautifully done.

Greetings Ms. Parris: Thanks to Mr. Bob Perkins'radio station here in Philadelphia, my friend and I have become exposed to your music/talent. Do you have any plans to perform in or around the Philadelphia area? My friend ends his work day with your version of "All My Tomorrows" and he is spiritually moved by your song. I suggested to him that he needs to go see you live...because you have inspired him. It would be great if you or a staff member could respond to this message. His e-mail address is gdempsey@phila.k12.pa.us. My e-mail address is dunstonvyneda@msn.com. Thank you, Vyneda

dear rebecca, it's been much too long my love. you don't call, you don't write, whats a lonely rebecca soulmate to do? i go to my record stores looking for you and yet still - no trace of you. if i did not know better, i'd swear that you might be trying to lose me. i guess you just didn't realize who you were dealing with.
o.k., enough of the self-pity- allright, already! as they say in the movies, - allow me to introduce myself (or in my case - re-introduce) we met one rainy cold night in in a quaint jazz club some several years ago now, - in st. paul, minnesota. i remember because i got in trouble that night because i was paying more attention to you than my date. it turned out to be one of the most magical evenings of my life -(no kidding). i'll save that epic for some other conversation some time later. we did have the occassion to see you a couple of times since, but you have not graced our fair city for some time. now that i have become modernized (computer) - o.k., so i've been a little slow ... and stubborn, but i'm here. and i am delighted to find you again. just called my favorite record store to order "my foolish heart" and can't wait to get it so i can fall in love again. i haven't done that yet this week so after all, what better way than with my favorite club singer, a glass of jameson (on the rocks, of course), a smoke and oh, let me turn the volume up just a bit. the love of my life from that enchanted october evening resides only in my heart as we have parted (for now?) for about 2 years now, but lately i've been experiencing an unusually strong force that seems to be strumming my heart strings. that has been a every day occurrence yes, but lately... allright, already, who is this you are wondering. o.k., the suspense is killing me too. i'm jesse, and the lady was tess. we were blessed that evening by your voice at the dakota - in st. paul, and those evenings will be etched FOREVER in this man's heart and soul. and i'm sure tess will have similar, if not identical sentiments. we love you rebecca, and miss you even more. i ordered 2 copies of your newest cd, and i thought it might make a wonderful valentines gift to a certain soulmate of mine (anonymously, of course). as if she won't know - right? anyways, it is great, - no wait , it is fabulous, to see you again (website photos) and i will be keeping close tabs on your schedule and when i might be able to take a 'road trip' to come give a warm embrace to my ALL TIME jazz club singer (i've never really enjoyed concert halls much for intimate jazz), and indulge myself with those dulcid tones once again. and somehow, no matter what time of year it is, - it will be a rainy cold night in october - all over again... dig? be well rebecca - you are a blessing. with real love (as only passionate jazzers can give), jesse p.s. after all of this, i sure hope you even remember me.

Ms. Parris, I had the opportunity to hear you perform at Kelly's in Key West several years ago (it may have been as long as six years ago, actually) and I was inspired by your presence and your sense of craft. I'm a jazz singer as well and I'm working every day to learn more. Folks like yourself are an inspiration. I'm looking at NEC for grad school. Maybe I'll see you around. Thanks for sharing your gift. I'm looking forward to buying some of your recordings. Peace, Love, & All That Jazz, Paige Wroble p.s. I found your site via www.jazzvocal.com :)

Wow! I was just checking out your guest book and noticed that someone else who caught your show in Key West had written you just a couple months ago. Looks like that night be a sign from "the powers that be." :) I'm thinking of going down there to do a showcase with a very good Key West resident (if there is such a thing...) friend of mine. Perhaps you'd like to join us. I know I'm dreaming, but man! That would be incredible! Paige Wroble wroble@bellsouth.net

I've been hearing Bob Parlocha spinning Rebecca's tunes for a while now, mostly while riding around in the car. Finally last night I pulled to the side of the road and wrote down his announcement so I wouldn't forget in the morning! I finally got off my duff and actually ordered "Live at Chan's". Now I'm intrigued. It won't be long before I have all of her albums, I'm sure. Ms. Paris needs to visit the South, or at least St. Louis (Jazz at the Bistro). I'm glad to know that not ALL my favorite singers are dead (Carol Sloane, and Helen Merrill excepted). Thanks for the sounds, Rebecca! Jimmy Vickers, Nashville TN

Rebecca,
I am involved with some folks here in Nashville who have a jazz education school called The Nashville Jazz Workshop. It's a not-for-profit organization, and they have mostly serious adult students, many of whom have careers or are beginning to gig around. You might be interested in seeing their web site. The school has recently sponsored Jeff Hamilton in a workshop situation. Jamie Abersold and several others have done clinics there. The jazz community here is large (surprising for many outsiders) and the level of professionalism here is astounding. Would you be interested in doing a clinic or workshop here? We could get you a public gig as well. Let me know. You can reach me at: Bluffdweller4@aol.com Sincerely, Jimmy Vickers

I loved your webpage. It was just great with lots of nice graphics and good information about you. And I liked the fact that you are willing to promote your friends which shows that you are secure in what you do. You don't find that a lot in this arena. I saw you at the East Coast Jazz Festival about two years ago and you were wonderful. I am a vocalist here in D.C. I have only been singing for seven years. I've had a co-stage at the festival for the past 5 years. I'm going out to get your CD with the ballads right away. As any vocalist knows, ballads are more difficult to sing than any other type song. I have learned a lot about "laying back" but certainly can learn much more. I would like to get some tips from you about how to get a club date. I have contacted a lot of places in this area and they ask you to send a tape or video which they never listen to or look at because they get so many. Jacqui Simmons jshortsimmons@aol.com

It was 5 years ago when my partner and I first met in a poetry forum online. I was living in Texas, she in Boston. A couple of months after we connected, I received a surprise package of "all things Boston." Included with a Boston tourist videotape and a book of the city was a CD of her favorite local Jazz artist, Rebecca Parris. The CD was Loves Comes and Goes, and attached was a note that read "Play #5 and think of me." Number 5 was "You Are There".
On March 8th, 1997, we met face to face in Virginia Beach for the first time. The occasion was to celebrate my 40th birthday. The CD made the trip. Our meeting turned out to be the four most incredible days of my life, and I came to realize that life really does begin at 40. Six months later I made the move to Boston. Since then, we've been fortunate enough to catch your performances on Jazz Harbor cruises and at Scullers. Last night she surprised me with the news that next week, on March 8th, exactly 5 years to the day that we met, we'll be in the audience of your 7:30 show at the Regatta Bar. It would mean more than you know if you could perform "You Are There" or "So I Love You," or just about anything from the Love Comes and Goes CD. If you can't, could you just wish Joette & Deb a Happy Anniversary? Thanks so very much and keep on "scattin'!" Deb Johnson Framingham, MA enjoyzcoke@aol.com

Hi Ms. Parris:
My name is Laura Henrich and I book a Friday evening jazz series at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It technically began in Oct., however since the Museum put media efforts behind it beginning in January, it is doing very well. Bob Perkins, of WRTI in Philadephia keeps singing your praises. I just listened to snippets of you on the internet, but would love to hear more. I am currently booking July through Dec. 2002 and still have some openings. When someone can sing "Over the Rainbow" and make my day, well... I can be reached at 215-684-7866 Tuesday-Friday. On Mondays, I work from home 610-664-8731. I would be very anxious to talk with you. Sincerely, Laura Henrich

Dear Rebecca, Congratulations on your success!
I am trying to locate your family's vocal clinic here in the Boston area. My program is Family Music Makers (see www.familymusicmakers.com) - we teach music to families with young children. This past session I thought I've had a cold or sore throat, but it hasn't resolved, and I'd like to consult vocal experts. One of our teachers heard your recent interview and recommended that I contact your family's clinic. I am concerned about the condition of my voice and hope I can find help. Hi Rebecca, I read a review of "My Foolish Heart" in Jazztimes or Downbeat and thought I should check it out. I absolutely loved it. I'm a big vocalist fan (Sarah, Carmen, Abbey, Dee Dee, Cassandra, Nina, Shirley Horn, Kitty M.,Diane Reeves...love those ladies!) and always love finding a new great singer. I am really enjoying many turns of the new balled CD.I've been exploring your other albums and am enjoying them also. I grew up in Brockton, MA, and have lived in York, Maine for the last 18 years. I am buying an Inn and moving to Weston,VT in 6 weeks. Poor timing for becoming a Rebecca Parris fan. (www.wilderhomestead.com) Probably changing the name to the Judge Wilder Inn. Please come visit some day. Weston is beautiful. May someday organize a vocal series at the Weston Playhouse (that's my big dream after I master innkeeping!) You may hear from me someday in that regard and perhaps remember this email. Good luck in your endeavors and congratulations on your recent successes. Rebecca, my partner Fran and I have seen you perform at each and every Maudsley performance (amongst others), and this year will be no different. The only difference is that this year's performance on July 6 also happens to be Fran's birthday. If you have time to fit your own rendition of Happy Birthday to Fran into the evening's repertoire you will make Fran the happiest woman in the whole wide world. Truth be told, Fran has always had a huge crush on you, so you can only imagine how she will melt if you sing to her. We will be sitting on the lawn as close to the stage as is physically possible.

Dear Rebecca: I just saw you in Marblehead and absolutely loved the concert ! Both of the tunes by Jobim (Meditation and Chega de Saudade)sounded like brand new songs in your arrangement. Could you, please, tell me the name of the tune that got the biggest applause and you said afterwards that we liked it because we "loved and got kicked" and also which of your cd is it on ? I couldn't find it on "My Foolish Heart". I think you should be #1 of the vocalists in Down Beat, so this year my vote goes to you !!! I also loved when you let the audience pick the tempo of "Lullaby of B'dland", not to mention the Michel Legrand encore. Thanks a million,Stefan my e-mail: stefanz@bellatlantic.net

Marla, you mentioned that there might be a video, and that I should contact you. If you were successful in the recording, I would love to get a copy. Please let me know what the the cost is for the tape and postage, and I will be more than happy to sned that along. Our home address is 27 Munroe Street, Newburyport 01950. As I age, I'm learning the importance of never letting an occasion to applaud slip away.
I first heard you about a year ago on a jazz internet station. (I'm sure you've been around much longer----but, you know, I don't get out much)! Anyway, I was awe-struck by your incredible talent. The first song I heard you sing was "Lover Man" which happens to be one of my favorites anyway. You were so fabulous, unique and soulful that I immediately called me sister, long-distance, and told her about you. We are both huge music fans, AND have impeccable taste! Your interpretation and style are the best I've ever heard. I'm grateful to you for gracing my life with your music and letting me see a piece of heaven on earth. Your Huge Fan, Diane Cox

As I sit hear at my "machine" I hear - no I feel your voice just washing over the whole house...I am a new fan-- thanks to public library that happened to have your latest album My Foolish Heart I think you are fabulous! and I am now in search of where to begin in purchasing your CD's--so I was querying for info and reviews so I knew the best places to begin! then I found your page! I must tell you - when I first read the album notes-- I was a bit put off by the quasi - dis of the "unamed" female a jazz singer that is so popular currently because I love her stuff--- and at first listening to your CD I struggled a bit with slow pace of the songs at first---but after listening again --I realised the pace issue was mine! I needed to remember how to totally chill! I appreciate your wonderful music-- and style. I look forward to following your carreer from this point of discovery on-- I am also a fan of Kurt Elling-- whom I discovered by a fluke too-- SO glad to know such great American Jazz is out there -- Sally in Virgina swowy@fcc.net
Could someone make a recommendation of which albums to pick up next?-- what are your favorites?

Ms. Parris: I heard you for the first time tonight on Temple University Public Radio station WRTI. I am a singer and was absolutely awestruck by your voice. It is so supple and smoky and nuanced. I heard the announcer ( jazz disc jockey supreme, Bob Perkins, better known as "B.P. with the G.M."(Bob Perkins with the good music) say that you'll be appearing at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in November. I'll be there! I can't wait. You can catch some sound clips of my first CD (I'm currently working on a second of all Michel Legrand material) at www.theatrefest.com/claudiabeechman. If you do have a chance to listen, you'll see that I am not a jazz singer. However, I love good jazz singers ( Johnny Hartman is one of my favorites), blues singers, opera singers, folk singers, Brazilian singers; as Duke Ellington said, "If it sounds good, it IS good!" Hope to hear from you. See you in Philadelphia. Claudia Beechman (claudchant@aol.com)
